KAMLOOPS - Learn the basics of acrylic painting with local artist and educator Elizabeth Pattie.
Week One: Introduction to Colour Theory & Mixing
Learn how to mix your own colours and build a harmonious colour palette by creating your own colour wheel and blending chart.
Week Two: Still Life Painting
Learn about the rich history of still life painting and how to build your own still life composition. We will cover the basics of perspective and how to draw from life.
Week Three: Guided Gallery Tour and Abstract Painting
Class will begin with a guided tour of our exhibitions followed by sketching activities in the gallery. We will learn about the principles of design, with a focus on repetition and rhythm, and create an abstract painting.
Week Four: Plein-air Landscape Painting
Learn about different historical landscape painters and try your hand at creating your own. Weather permitting, we will walk down to Riverside Park with our canvas and easel to create a painting in plein-air.
Week Five: Portrait Painting
Learn about historical and contemporary portrait painters and their techniques. Please bring a photograph to work from. Not interested in painting people? Bring a photograph of your favourite creature - pets need portraits, too!
Interested participants can enroll in all five workshops or select the days that interest them.
Classes are: Saturday, July 23, 30, August 6, 13, 20, 1:00 to 4:00 pm
Ages: 16+
Cost: $22 member / $25 public (class)
No experience is necessary and all materials are provided.
