30th Avenue construction set for Monday

Vehicle traffic will be directed around 30th Avenue between 33rd and 35th Street but pedestrians will be welcome for the duration of the project.

Construction on the 30th Avenue Downtown Revitalization between 33 St. and 35 St. will start early Monday morning.

The road will be closed to vehicle traffic on 30th Ave. from 33 St. to 35 St. Initially, pedestrians will be able to get to businesses via the sidewalks which will be in tact while the actual road construction is happening. Later, when the sidewalks are getting redone, pedestrians will be able to march right down the middle of 30th Ave.

Businesses will be open during the construction period, and measures are being taken to encourage shopping in the area.

Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be re-directed around the construction as necessary. During construction, the B.C. Transit stop that is normally located on the south side of the downtown Safeway will be re-located to the north side of the downtown Safeway on 35 St. in front of Discovery Plaza and on the side of Simply Delicious.

All project information, including the landscape design, is posted on the 30 Avenue Project page on the City of Vernon website.

Construction is weather dependant and is slated to be complete in early July. Public inquiries should be directed to: Mark Dowhaniuk, City of Vernon infrastructure engineer, Phone: 250-550-3647 email: mdowhaniuk@vernon.ca
