  • City looks for new ways to manage wastewater solids

    As the population in the region increases, the cities of Kelowna and Vernon are working together to identify sustainable ways to manage the region’s growing supply of treated wastewater solids – and they want to hear from residents.

    “We are committed to finding a socially, economically and environmentally responsible long-term solution,” said City of Kelowna Utilities Planning Manager Andrew Reeder.
  • Nicola Valley Hospital – Emergency Department Expansion

    MERRITT – Interior Health has chosen Kasian Architecture Interior Design and Planning Ltd. as the design consultant for the planned expansion and renovation of the Nicola Valley Hospital and Health Centre’s emergency department.

    Kasian was chosen as the successful proponent from among nine submissions for a recent request for proposals (RFP) that closed Dec. 6.
  • City begins next phase of flood protection works in Marshall Field

    VERNON - The City of Vernon has moved forward with the next phase of flood protection works in Marshall Field, with work beginning this week. Work under this phase will be completed by contractor R355 Enterprises, and includes restoration and landscaping of works completed in late 2014, as well as the continuation of the channel adjacent to Okanagan Landing Road that was constructed in 2012.
  • West Kelowna aquatic centre open for business and fun

    The Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre is open for business, despite construction that is currently underway on the site.

    The District of West Kelowna and its pool contractor Active Living Enterprises would like to thank users for their patience during ongoing construction, which will continue through to the end of October.
  • Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre reopens

    Starting today, September 16, Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre reopens to the public following a short closure that was required due to construction and the annual maintenance shutdown. A temporary entrance has been provided during the construction period.

    The pool, weight room, fitness and general programs are all open from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  • Brown Road upgrades to begin August 26

    Brown Road will be closed for construction from August 26 through mid-November, but access to businesses, churches and residences will be maintained during the Phase 1 Streetscape Improvement Project.

    During construction, the public will be directed to use Old Okanagan Highway and then proceed along Bering, Gossett, Apollo or Drought Roads to access area businesses, churches and residences.

    Recycling Curbside Collection Changes
    With new provincial regulations to the provincial Recycling Regulation of the Environmental Management Act which will see producers of packaging and printed paper becoming responsible for the collection, resident education, processing and recycling or disposal of the material, a new non-profit organization has formed called Multi Material British Columbia (MMBC).
  • Recycle Your Plant Pots

    Remember to lift the blue lid of your recycling cart after you’ve done any gardening around your home. If you’re not going to re-use them, those plastic flowerpots and plant trays can all be recycled.

    Everything from large nursery flowerpots for shrubs and trees to small planting trays for annual bedding plants, perennials, vegetables, and herbs can all be recycled. Simply rinse or wipe out the dirt and put the plastics in your recycling cart.
